Algorithmic Influence & Consumer Consent: A critical look into Instagram's ToS

This research project was a rabbit hole that led me down a dark path towards understanding the tricky legal relationships between the U.S. government, Instagram, and their users.


Because there was not much good news to report on these matters, I formatted this presentation into a game to be played in class : a gameshow-style, team against team point system for guessing answers to questions about what the ToS of Instagram entails and the rights that users legally have under policies regulating consumer consent.


The objective was to get the audience to engage with the material in a way that would lead them to draw their own conclusions about the state of user-social media giant relationships given the facts that exist.


The team that got the most questions right got yoyos at the end.
